9 Years of Great Design with BluPrint
Pioneering the 1st Annual Visionary Design Competition
BluPrint Magazine, the country’s premier design magazine published by MEGA Publishing Group, celebrated its 9th anniversary last Friday, October 24 with an evening affair at The Podium in Ortigas Center, Pasig City. The occasion, attended by the who’s who in Philippine design, also marked the launch of its first Annual Visionary Design Competition (AViD).
BluPrint first came on to the scene in 1999 and has since set the standard for glossy publications covering architecture and design in the Philippines. The magazine’s success has been based from its use of striking architectural photography, compelling writing and slick graphic design.
What started as a quarterly publication featuring the best of Filipino and international design is now releasing nine content-packed issues a year, still covering the whole range of design plus design-related articles on heritage, travel and culture. With such timeless, educational, and infromative content, BluPrint issues are all collector’s items. No one throws away a BluPrint.
The magazine’s target audience has grown from professional designers to a growing demographic of discerning general readers interested in the latest in design trends and the best in modern architecture, contemporary interiors, tropical landscapes, innovative furniture and cutting edge graphic design.
In fact, they are found on architect’s reference shelves, chic coffee tables in designer homes, and in posh lounges of exclusive clubs and lifestyle establishments.
The BluPrint 9th Anniversary event was attended by members and officers of United Architects of the Philippines, Philippine Institute of Interior Design, Philippine Association of Landscape Architects, Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners, along with the deans of several schools and colleges of architecture and interior design.
The presence of these representatives from the design community was deemed the most appropriate opportunity to launch BluPrint’s first Annual Visionary Design Competition. AViD, according to BluPrint’s editor in chief Paulo Alcazaren, is meant to discover new and exciting Filipino talent in Design.
The AViD competition is open to young designers and professionals. The object will be to find the most creative designs for two types of structures— a ‘party boat’ for the Young Designers Category and an ‘island resort airport’ for the Professional Category. Alcazaren confirmed that, because of the theme, the competition is officially sanctioned by the Department of Tourism, led by Sec. Ace Durano.
The event was hosted by TV personality Tintin Bersola-Babao with entertainment by world-renowned Pundaquit Virtuosi String Ensemble. The event ended with Mr. Alcazaren giving a preview of BluPrint’s offerings for 2009 and the opening of an exhibit of BluPrint’s photographic images from its recent issues. The BluPrint Exhibit will run until October 28, Tuesday.
The launch was mounted by MEGA Publishing Group with the help from sponsors EGLO, Garden Barn, APO, HCG, Blims, ONDA, Playpoint Phil. Inc., Panasonic, and San Miguel Premium Beer.
